Since you left
Come back to your PC or phone and see on one page what your agents did while you were away: which need you, which are stuck, what they said last, what it cost, and how their questions were answered.
On this page
When ratchet counts you as awayThe bannerThe pageThe four statesWhat the cost coversHow answers are labelledratchet opens on Since you left when it starts, and it is the first row of the side menu, with a count such as 4 new. The count stays while this page is open and goes away once you leave it, until you are away again. On the phone it is the first card of the Agents tab, for example 1 needs you · 3 finished.
When ratchet counts you as away
ratchet notices on its own when you were away: for 60 minutes or more, no ratchet screen was in front of you. A screen is in front when ratchet is open in a browser tab that is not in the background, in the ratchet window while it is not minimised, or in the ratchet app on a paired phone while it is on screen. Time with ratchet stopped counts as away too.
The report starts when you left and runs until now. If you glance at your phone during the night and don't close the banner, the morning's report still starts when you left in the evening. Once you close the banner or open the page, your next absence starts a new report.
Before ratchet has seen you away once, the page shows the last 24 hours. An absence longer than 7 days shows its last 7 days.
The banner
When you come back after an absence in which an agent worked, a banner shows at the top of ratchet, on your PC and on your paired phones: While you were away (8 h 20 min): 1 needs you · 1 stuck · 3 finished · ~$12.40. See what happened opens the page. Closing the banner hides it on every screen until your next absence.
The page
The page has one row per task: the repo's main folder, or a task folder an agent worked in. The most urgent come first. Each row shows the task's state, its repo and branch, what it cost while you were away, its pull request and checks, the start of what the agent said last, and the questions and plans the agent asked you about. Open agent opens the agent's page while it is still listed in the side menu.
The four states
- Needs you: an agent is waiting for your answer or your permission right now.
- Stuck: an agent is still running in ratchet but has written nothing for 30 minutes.
- Working: an agent is still running and wrote something in the last 30 minutes.
- Finished: no agent of the task is running or waiting.
What the cost covers
The cost is what the task's agents spent while you were away, helper agents included. It is estimated at API prices from Claude Code's logs, the same way as the cost on agent cards. On a Claude subscription you don't pay per token.
How answers are labelled
- Question · Keep Redis for sessions? → No, drop it: you answered.
- → Away mode: No, drop it: Away mode let the agent decide, and this is what it chose.
- → waiting for you: the question is still open.
- → no answer: nobody answered and the question is closed.
- Plans show approved, Away mode approved, rejected, waiting for you or no answer.
- A permission an agent is waiting for right now shows as Permission · Bash · rm -rf dist → waiting for you.
Questions an agent asked in plain text are not listed; the row shows them when they were its last words. To find permissions given earlier, search History.
